Halloween Safety

Written by  Jesse Muench

Holland's One Hour Heating and Air Conditioning and Holland Home Services knows it’s the time of year for fun-filled fear! A little Halloween scare can be amusing, but there is a difference between suspense and real danger. Make sure this Halloween is a safe and enjoyable one for you and your family.

Don’t let kids trick or treat alone. Make sure they are either in a group or with an adult. This will deter strangers from approaching trick-or-treaters.

Follow the rules of the road. Cross the street only at crosswalks and be aware of drivers on the road. Use the sidewalks wherever they are available, otherwise stay to the far side of the road. Make sure your children walk, running could present a tripping hazard and doesn’t allow them time to notice all possible traffic. Put reflectors or reflector tape on bags or costumes to ensure drivers see all the little goblins, princesses and sports stars roaming the neighborhood.

Be careful with your costumes. Check to make sure there are no sharp or pointy objects, tripping hazards, or makeup that could become an irritant. Also avoid costumes that blocks vision. Besides, if your kids can’t see how are they going to find the best candy?

Inspect all candy before eating. Look for treats that have been altered and choking hazards. Also watch how much candy your kids eat. Too many sweets at one time are never a good thing!

Get a safety inspection done on your furnace. Carbon monoxide has been called a “silent killer” for good reason. It is invisible, odorless, and deadly, and every furnace creates it. However if your furnace is leak free it is vented outside where it becomes harmless carbon dioxide. We can also install carbon monoxide detectors in your home to make sure that your family is safe.

If you have any concerns about carbon monoxide in your home give us a call at 414-847-1555 or visit us at www.hollandhomeservices.com to schedule an appointment with us today. Holland Home Services / Holland’s One Hour Heating and Air Conditioning wants to make sure all homeowners in the Milwaukee, Ozaukee County, Washington County and Waukesha County are safe from high Carbon Monoxide levels.
